VICTORIA, TEXAS—The most recognized 1-Mile Top Speed Racing event in the world, The Texas Mile announced Tuesday morning it will establish its new home at Victoria Regional Airport in Victoria, Texas. The Texas Mile hosts over 220 of the fastest performance cars and motorcycles from across the United States to test their fastest speed in a 1 mile stretch. The bi-annual event will take place every March and October with the first event scheduled for March 24-26, 2017.

The Texas Mile welcomes amateur and professional car and motorcycle racers who all share the need for speed- without the fear of tickets or jail time! The Texas Mile was started in October 2003 by Julius (Jay) Matus, II and his wife, Shannon Matus, in Goliad, Texas with 35 participants and relatively no spectators. Over the last 14 years, the event now features over 220 participants and thousands of spectators in attendance. In recent years, the event has taken place at Chase Field Industrial Complex in Beeville, Texas and has brought over $1 million dollars to the local community each year with over 2,700 hotel room nights booked.

“We considered Victoria as the possible new site for The Texas Mile for several years,” said Jay Matus, CEO of The Texas Mile. “With a lot of hotel options and great family tourist attractions for our spectators, we think the time is perfect to move The Texas Mile here permanently,” he added.

“Victoria is very pleased to have such a well-known event like The Texas Mile move here, “said Joel Novosad, Director of the Victoria Convention & Visitors Bureau. “The event will bring hundreds of overnight visitors to Victoria and have significant economic impact for the community.”

For Participants and spectators, convenient amenities will be offered onsite such as local food trucks, merchandise, and shaded spectator viewing areas. Excessive Speed Required

March 23, 2016

The Texas Mile, Where The Fast Go Faster and Records are Set - April 1-3, 2016

HOUSTON, TEXAS— BEEVILLE, TX— The world famous Texas Mile, thunders once again at Chase Field Industrial Complex in Beeville, Texas on April 1-3, 2016. Over 250 racers will pilot exotic supercars, radical American muscle, European sports cars, screaming motorcycles, concept racecars, and a fast truck or two. No Speed Limit, No Speeding Tickets, and 1-mile of pure excitement, set the stage for amateurs and professional racers alike, with a strong common bond, the need for maximum speed! The Texas Mile, “Is what it is,” pure and simple; an all-out run from 0 to most a machine will give.

Texas Mile fans can proudly say, “The fastest car in Texas, is faster than any other.” Houston-area based M2K Motorsports, recorded 278.2 MPH, in their highly modified 2006 Ford GT, which is the current Texas Mile top-speed record has held by them since October of 2013. Even though M2K’s Ford GT is the undisputed, “King of Speed,” they are never satisfied with yesterday’s best, and will return this April 1-3. After months of planning, they are convinced, “This is the time,” and 278 MPH will be a thing of the past. Recently, a few ½-mile superstars have run well over 220 MPH, and feel confident in challenging MK2’s Ford GT, which ran 215.1 at the ½ mile mark on their record one-mile run. It remains to be seen if one of these new upstarts can run the full mile and upset a Texas horsepower hero. Spectators are in for an exciting weekend of top speed battles.

Other exciting news comes from Snappy Racing out of the Dallas area, who will attempt to reset a record they currently own, “World’s Fastest 5th Generation Camaro.” Even though Snappy Racing has built a new 2500 horsepower Camaro that should be ready for competition in October 2016, they are ready for all challengers with their familiar inferno orange convertible, and more power than ever before. Don’t miss this racing team attempt to break their own record and show competitors why they’re still the champs. Get up close and personal with drivers and crews to see under the hood of these wild rides and what makes them go so fast. A Texas Mile pass gets you in the pits to see all cars, crews, and drivers. Texas Mile participants are among the friendliest in motorsports, and spectators enjoy bringing the entire family. Spaces for campers are available for the weekend, and provide a front row seat to the most exciting 1-mile event in this country has to offer.

Do The Mile with style, and rent a golf cart to cover this amazing event from end to end, while enjoying an experience like no other, with onsite amenities including delicious food from local vendors, cool racing merchandise for all ages, and a luxury shaded club area located for viewing the action. All this with one pass, there’s no additional ticket charge to enjoy VIP treatment. Hotels, motels, RV parks, and a few hometown Bed and Breakfast locations around the Beeville area are welcoming racers and fans to South Texas for a day or an extended weekend.

Don’t let an incredible opportunity pass you, your family, and friends by. Come see some of the most exotic supercars and unbelievable racecars from all over the planet blast down a 1-Mile stretch of asphalt at astounding speeds. See the newest cars off the show room floor like Mustangs, Camaros, Cadillacs, Corvettes, Challengers, and Chargers, with drivers determined to “Run ‘em like they stole ‘em!” Check out our website at for a look at what’s to come. Find us on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter, to keep up with all the excitement before, during and after the event.

The Texas Mile

October, 2014

The Texas Mile will close out their 11th racing season at Chase Field in Beeville, Texas with an exciting three day event.

There are approximately 250 entries for the October Texas Mile with some the world’s fastest motorcycles and vehicles. Some will be attempting to achieve the new Texas Mile and World records during Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Amongst the large field are a number of well-known characters and vehicles.

M2K Motorsports, will be defending their 278.2mph record with driver Patrick O’Gorman. M2K’s 2006 Ford GT has held the mph record multiple times over the years. It is definitely a spectacular vehicle to witness.

M2K’s main competition for the record is Kelly Bise Racing, in his 2009 Corvette with an estimated 2000 horse power. This has been a long time rivalry between the two race teams. Should make for some exciting speeds.

Kelly Bise Racing is returning from a nearly devastating crash that ended the record holding 2000 Chevy Camaro. However, Bise is back with driver Joe Huneycutt, both of them attempting to set the new Corvette record that is currently held in Ohio by Hinson Motorsports. The current Texas Mile Corvette record is held by LaQuay Motorsports out of Port Lavaca, Texas. His speed is currently 216.3mph which was established in March 2013.

Hinson Motorsports is returning to the Texas Mile with their 2001 Corvette Z06 defending their Ohio record as well as attempting to stop Bise Racing and LaQuay Racing from besting their record as well as attempting to set a new Texas Mile Corvette record. This is setup to be an exciting Corvette battle of speed attempts.

Another highlight of the 2014 season is the entry of Mark Marquardt in his 2009 Cadillac CTS-V. His Cadillac is the first to hit 200mph in Texas Mile history. By the end of the March 2014 weekend his CTS-V had the record of 200.9mph. The Texas Mile has over 20 Cadillac’s signed up for the October Texas Mile. The Texas V-Club has always shown up in force with some of the fastest cars overall. This October event will also have a motorcycle celebrity attending. Rider Valerie Thompson was just inducted into the 200mph club at Bonneville in September 2014. Thompson will be riding her 2012 BMW and in the past has run 212mph at the Texas Mile.

Hussain Alsowaigh will also be attending with his 2008 Hayabusa. Hussain, in the past, has run a mind blowing 249.6mph at the Texas Mile. I’m sure his bike is prepared to go even faster this time.

There is going to be some really interesting competition out there this weekend. So sit back and enjoy.

Jay Matus joins EFFORT Racing for the Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy at Austin Grand Prix

EFFORT will field multiple cars in the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix support race at the Circuit of The Americas Nov. 16-18

PEARLAND, Texas, Nov. 2, 2012 -- Jay Matus, owner of Texas Speed Racing and The Texas Mile, will join the EFFORT Racing team at the Circuit of The Americas (COTA) for the final round of the 2012 Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy.

"EFFORT has given us the opportunity to be part of the opening weekend of COTA in support of the inaugural Formula 1 Race. There's only one time in history that this will occur and we are honored to be a part of it "said Shannon Matus, Jay's wife and long-time collaborator.

"We've been a part of Texas motor sports since 1991 as first participants and then becoming event organizers and creators and a two-car Porsche race team owner. Even though I do not race myself, the experiences I have had and the friendships we have formulated is what has me as addicted to the sport as much as any driver or crew member.”

After many years of competitive events with the Skip Barber Series and SCCA, Jay and Shannon wanted to help advance the opportunities in amateur motor sports in Texas. In 2001, the Matuses launched the Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana arm of the National Auto Sport Association (NASA), where Jay also holds multiple regional German Touring Series (GTS) titles. Jay is also the 2010 NASA GTS3 National Champion, placed second in the NASA GTS4 Nationals in 2011, and placed second in the NASA GTS3 Nationals in 2006. With NASA, the Matuses where part of many first in Texas as well as being part of the first NASA National Championships in 2006 and in 2003 creating the internationally recognized Land Speed Venue, The Texas Mile.

"The heart and soul of everything we've done in racing has always been about the overall experience for the people and the love of the sport. EFFORT Racing is much the same in their endeavors leading with an intense focus on core values of what it takes to be champions." Shannon said.
"Chuck Toups, EFFORT's owner, gave us the go-ahead to put an additional car in the field. We're happy to be able to give that opportunity to Jay. The Matuses have been a lot of help to me along the way and I'm happy to be in a position to give something back to them for being such an integral part of Texas Motor Sports," said EFFORT driver Michael Mills.

"We thank all of our Texas Mile and Texas Speed fans and sponsors for supporting our efforts in motor sports. We're living the dream," Shannon expressed.

Texas Speed Racing: Team TxSpeed is an amateur road racing team that has a reputation for operating in a manner found with highly respected professional teams. With this team, "The Race for Quality has NO Finish Line."
The Texas Mile: The Texas Mile has grown rapidly since its inaugural event in October 2003. Participants come from all edges of the United States, Canada, and Mexico to test themselves and their motorized equipment on the fastest and most challenging 1-mile track in the world. They achieve their top speed in 1-Mile and shut down in a 1/2-Mile. This bi-annual motorsports festival is created for performance enthusiasts, welcoming motorcycles, performance streetcars, racecars, and land speed racers.

OCTOBER 21-23, 2011

Press Release: Beeville, Texas, September 30, 2011
The Texas Mile and BRM watches are proud and delighted to announce the birth of a new and exciting partnership based on a common and unabated passion for the world of motorsports and high performance. The next event to be held by the Texas Mile will take place on October 21-23, 2011, at the Chase Field Industrial Complex, in Beeville, Texas, a new location replacing the Goliad Industrial Airpark in Goliad, Texas.

Set on an airfield providing plenty of room for top speeds and family entertainment, the Texas Mile was created in 2003 by the Matus’ to offer North American motorsports and grand touring enthusiasts an opportunity to enjoy the full scale of their machines’ performances without risking a huge ticket on the freeway. This year again, on October 21-23, the world renowned event will feature a wide range of vehicles, from land speed racers to street legal automobiles and motorcycles, racing in the most dynamic, fun and contemporary environment.

To serve their passion for speed, outstanding sportsmanship and bold engineering, BRM and the Texas Mile share the same set of core values: a commitment to efficiency and excellence, camaraderie, and a solid infrastructure based on precision technology, experience and challenge. It was therefore only natural for the French luxury watch manufacturer and the Texas Mile to decide to join forces for all future events. To celebrate the spirit of racing and its new partnership with the Texas Mile, BRM will reward the new top speed record achiever for the Texas Mile course in Beeville, Texas with a unique edition V14-44 wristwatch featuring the Texas Mile logo. Like all BRM models, the V14-44 is a concentrate of modern technology made of titanium and superfine 18/8 stainless steel, as well as an ode to the greats of motor racing. BRM and the Texas Mile will also reward selected VIPs with gorgeous BRM key chains adorned with the event’s logo. All spectators will be given the opportunity to vote who should be recognized as some of the VIP’s.
Stay tuned for more announcements regarding the criteria for these coveted recognitions.

NEW American Iron Class at the Texas Mile

Hello Texas Mile Participants,

The Texas Mile staff is excited to announced the new American Iron Motorcycle class. This new class will allow for our participants to achieve new records on their style of bike. Now you can ride something other than a hayabusa and be the fastest in your class! We are bringing a whole new meaning to the phrase "come out and set a record in Texas". You will now be able to prove to your friends that your Harley v-twin is faster than an Asian v-twin or vice versa. Please review the American Iron class rules below to see if you qualify.

Factory Stock Sport: 1200cc or larger / 1199cc or smaller
Modified Sport: 1200cc or larger / 1199cc or smaller
Factory Stock Classic: 1200cc or larger / 1199cc or smaller
Modified Classic: 1200cc or larger / 1199cc or smaller
V-Twin: 1200cc or larger/1199cc or smaller

Classification is ultimately up the discretion of the Tech Inspection Official. The Tech Inspection Official in accordance with the Race Director retain the right to reclassify any entrant at any time during the course of the event.

Factory Stock Classification retains all a factory produced drive-train, electronics, chassis, exhaust, induction and layout. Modifications are allowed to meet the set safety requirements outlined in the rules and regulations. Cosmetic changes to the paint, ancillaries, and changes of tire make are allowed. Tires must retain a DOT rating. Performance enhancing modifications are not allowed to the drive-train, electronics, chassis, exhaust, induction and layout.
Factory Stock class will not allow any modification deemed speed enhancing by the Tech Inspection Official.

Modified Classification allows the modification to the drive-train, chassis, exhaust, induction. Preparation is allowed e.g. the covering or removal of signal lenses, extensive safety wire, aftermarket plastics, etc. Drastic layout and chassis modification purposed for land speed racing will not be allowed in the Modified class.

The Tech Inspection Official retains the right to reclassify any Modified entrant not deemed street worthy. "Street worthy" generally specifies that the motorcycle is able to reasonably and safely; make over the road travel for an extended period of time starting and stopping and abide to local state safety inspection requirements. The motorcycle must be capable to perform the above without the aid of support vehicles or staff.

Unlimited Classification allows an infinite amount of modifications to the bike specifically for the purpose of drag, road or land speed racing. Any participant may classify themselves as Unlimited. Chassis alteration, layout or engine modification is not required.
The Tech Inspection Official retains the right to classify any entrant into the Unlimited class.

Sport - Any motorcycle specifically manufactured for sport riding on or off road.

Classic - Any motorcycle specifically manufactured for the traditional up right motorcycle riding position.
Any entrant has the right to move up in classification if he or she wishes. Moving up delineates that your bike runs a lesser engine displacement and/or classifies lower than the class the rider wishes to be moved up into, e.g. Factory Stock European Classic 899cc or lesser may move up into the Modified European Sport 900cc or greater. Entrants may not classify themselves into a lesser class unless specifically allowed by the Tech Inspection Official.

Halloween at The Texas Mile
Bill Warner and Wild Brothers Racing sets a new record at The Texas Mile

Dear Texas Mile Participants and Fans,

We hope you enjoyed and safe and spooktacular Halloween. Thank you all for coming out to The October 2010 Texas Mile. It was another record breaking weekend.

In a blur of blue and white, Bill Warner and Wild Brothers Racing reminded us why Suzuki named one of the fastest production motorcycles on the planet Hayabusa. In Japanese, the word "hayabusa" refers to the peregrine falcon, a formidable bird of prey and one of the fastest creatures on the planet. On Sunday, Bill made a stunning 278.6 mph pass on his turbocharged blue and white 2000 Suzuki Hayabusa, setting a new record at The Texas Mile.

The fastest automobile at the October Mile was #125, Jonah Yokubaitis in an orange Lamborghini Gallardo LP560 clocking an impressive 243.0 mph at the one mile mark. Congratulations, Jonah! However, the record for the fastest car still stands with Richard Holt at 250.1 MPH in his Lamborghini Gallardo from March 2010. Both speeds were pretty dang fast!

A total of 1,386 passes were made over the 3-day weekend. Some of those passes didn't make it to the speed trap, but still counted as runs. 135 of those passes were over 200 mph!

We saw many new faces at The Mile, participants and spectators alike. People traveled from all across the country including Oregon, Florida, California, Illinois and New Jersey and as far away as Canada, London, and Afghanistan. Participants ranged in age from 16 to 79+, some on motorcycles, some in cars. The vast knowledge, experience and camaraderie shared across generations is what makes The Texas Mile such a great event.

Our two new food vendors, Fusion Taco and Taste Sensations served up gourmet food from sun up to sun down including breakfast, lunch and dinner plus new private catering service to The Texas Mile participants and their crews.

Two new spectator tents offered welcome shade from the Texas sun. One new tent at Start and one at the One Mile speed trap.

VP Racing Fuels was on site this October with top quality racing fuels adding a bit more "oomph" to those seeking to tweak the most from their machinery. Bill Warner can attest to that with 278.6 mph now under his belt.

The press turned out in full force. Word is definitely spreading about how much fun there is to be had at The Texas Mile! We had the pleasure of welcoming reporters and photographers from the Houston Chronicle, Victoria Advocate and Automobile Magazine among others. Several riders and drivers were interviewed for stories about The Mile. Additional articles appeared in magazines and newspapers including Living Magazine, El Campo Leader-News, Victoria Advocate and the Goliad Express.

We look forward to seeing you at the March 25-27, 2011 Texas Mile. Stay tuned for updates, registration announcements and more exciting things to add to your experience at The Texas Mile.
